COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Fermentopia event will return to the Phoenix Civic Center on Jan. 24-25 with workshops, tastings, a vendor marketplace, and ticketed culinary events including a dinner and brunch; 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. sessions are planned (children 12 and under enter free).  KOBI-TV
  • Local hospitals celebrated the first babies of 2026 as Providence Medford Medical Center welcomed baby Royce—who weighed 9 lb and 2 oz and measured 22.25 inches—and Asante announced the births of Ireland, Maven, and Tiarah.  KOBI-TV
  • Tuesday marked two years since Rogue X opened in Medford—a hub for cornhole tournaments, boxing matches, and car shows—and its director said the facility has become a community lifeline and expects new ideas to boost its economic impact beyond $6.8 million.  KOBI-TV
  • Kelley’s Automotive Service is running its annual Wipe Out Hunger campaign through Feb. 13; customers receive free windshield wiper installation when they donate 40 oz peanut butter and 12 oz jelly at Medford or Grants Pass. The collected items will benefit local food banks.  KOBI-TV

  • Rogue River Junior Senior High School's Food Science and Technology Team became the first FFA chapter team to qualify for the National Convention and will attend the event in Indianapolis next October.  Rogue River Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wolves are one step closer to delisting after the U.S. House recently passed the Pet and Livestock Protection Act of 2025 with a vote of 211-204, and conservation officer Blake Henning said the bill will move to the next stage.  Rogue River Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Households in nine additional counties (Baker, Crook, Deschutes, Jackson, Josephine, Malheur, Morrow, Umatilla, and Wasco) now have extended time to report lost or spoiled food purchased with SNAP to help them replace missing items.  Rogue River Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Elementary students across the Phoenix-Talent and Ashland school districts received winter hats, gloves and mittens today at Phoenix Elementary School from the Ashland Community Health Foundation. The annual drive gathered over 1,700 items, ensuring kids can enjoy outdoor recess safely.  KDRV
