COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Medford fire hydrants now sport reflective silver paint and colored tops—red, orange, green, and blue—that indicate water output. Fire Chief Eric Thompson said the project improves maintenance and emergency preparedness as the Water Commission works with a private contractor.  KDRV
  • Tak Kawashima turned 100 on Friday at Horton Plaza where a party honored his long life; he was born in El Centro, survived internment as a teenager & later served as a US Army interpreter.  KOBI-TV
  • The Family Nurturing Center in Medford is collecting used winter clothing for children (sizes 0 to 8, including jackets, scarves, hats) to help keep them warm. Drop-offs are at 825 East Main, Suite A, Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m. to noon.  KOBI-TV
  • The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office announced Corrections K9 Koda, a drug detection dog who served nearly six years at the Jackson County Jail before retiring in June 2024, died on Jan. 16 (he also assisted with community events and lived with his handler’s family).  MedfordAlert

CULTURE NEWS

  • Britt Music and Arts Festival announced its first wave of 2026 concerts with artists including KALEO, Bonnie Raitt, Alison Krauss and Union Station, Pink Martini, and Los Lobos. Tickets are on sale for select members now and will open to the public Jan. 30 (official tickets available only via britt.org).  KDRV
  • Rogue Gallery & Art Center and BASE have joined forces to present a Black History Month art exhibit themed Roots, Rhythm & Revolution that highlights local art and supports young artists. The exhibit opens Jan. 20 in Medford.  KOBI-TV
