COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Salvation Army held a ribbon-cutting at the Medford Family Services Center on Tuesday to celebrate a remodel that included a revamped check-in process, expanded service areas, and a shopping-style food pantry (designed to reduce food waste). Kelly’s Automotive Service donated 2,000 pounds of peanut butter and jelly.  KOBI-TV
  • Friends of the Animals hosts My Furry Valentine at Edenvale Winery on Valentine’s Day from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Medford—this free event offers wine tastings, a doggy kissing booth, card crafting and a chance to meet adoptable foster dogs.  KOBI-TV
  • Residents and visitors in Oregon can fish, clam, and crab for free on Feb. 14 and Feb. 15 with no license needed, although rod limits and size restrictions still apply. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife provides updates on harvest rules and safety.  KDRV
  • A Medford shop is custom-building a motorcycle for Marine veteran Joshua Kieyl, who needs modified controls because of a wartime injury + the bike will be unveiled later this summer while featuring design touches that honor his unit.  KOBI-TV
  • Night to Shine, the celebration honoring people with special needs, will take place this Friday at First Baptist Church. Participants (ages 14 and older) will enjoy limo rides, red carpet treatment, a catered dinner, and hair and makeup services available at the Collier Creative Center, and volunteers are still needed.  KOBI-TV
  • Invictus Protection Agency cleared 13 unauthorized occupants from the former Ramada Inn on Biddle Road on Jan. 6 using trauma-informed tactics to help connect residents to shelter resources. The approach reduced trespassing to zero in under a week, officials said.  KOBI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • New research by United Way Australia shows that Dolly Parton's Imagination Library boosts early literacy in Oregon, with nearly 74K children under age 5 enrolled since 2007. Gov. Tina Kotek said the program, supported by community partners (with a 50% funding match), helps build strong readers.  KDRV
  • Ashland Family YMCA’s Camp DeBoer lost 20% of its funding — risking cuts to its multi-day outdoor school programs — and now urges lawmakers at the Capitol to restore Measure 99 funds for nearly 1,000 students who benefit each year.  KDRV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, ranger districts will conduct controlled burns to reduce wildfire risk. The High Cascades team will burn 145 acres near Imnaha Campground with the Oregon Department of Forestry while Wild Rivers will burn 128 acres near Sunstar, so drivers should expect lower visibility from smoke.  KDRV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Retired firefighter Preston Britton died on Feb. 10 after a short battle with cancer and served Jackson County Fire District 3 for 22 years, officials said.  MedfordAlert

HEALTH NEWS

  • AllCare Health has expanded primary care access for Jackson County members through a new agreement with PrimeCare that adds 200 providers (including pediatricians). The initiative is in effect and aims to address the urgent need for timely care in Southern Oregon.  KOBI-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Rogue X expanded parking at Howard Memorial Sports Park as construction continues on new amenities. A 150-space lot on the west and a 154-space lot at Logos Public Charter School are open, while a 90-space lot – planned on the northeast – and pickleball courts will be ready by summer.  MedfordAlert
