COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rogue X is growing its parking capacity at Howard Memorial Sports Park by adding a 150-space gravel lot on the west side; a 90-space paved lot will open on the northeast side in the coming months + new recreational amenities are set to enhance the park.  KOBI-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Gold Beach’s Kissing Rock Coffee owners Christine and Andrew Houghtaling are in Newcastle, Australia competing in the Golden Bean World Series starting Monday, Feb. 16 — they will present an espresso, milk-based latte, and pour-over coffee to showcase their unique brew techniques.  KOBI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local author Robert Leo Heilman signed copies of his book at Oregon Books + Games as he shared his unexpected writing journey. The event, captured by Rogue River Press photographer Lori Centanni, brought together local readers for a warm community gathering.  Rogue River Press

ECONOMY NEWS

  • After a five-year hiatus, the Travel Southern Oregon Symposium returns as Southern Oregon Travel Jam. The full-day event begins at 8:00 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23 at Rogue Valley Country Club, with a social gathering (Sunday evening at Dunbar Farms) (featuring breakout sessions and a keynote address).  KOBI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • North Medford High School is set to rebuild its gym by fall 2027 after a roof collapse a year ago. District leaders said the new facility (meeting ADA requirements) will include steel girders replacing wooden beams, extra siding, and an elevator.  KOBI-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality proposed temperature pollution standards at a Feb. 12 meeting in Central Point to improve water quality in the Rogue River Basin by planting native trees and restoring banks; the plan includes monitoring six dam sites under federal guidelines.  KDRV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Senate passed Senate Bill 1527 today to remove out-of-pocket costs for necessary cervical cancer screenings and follow-up exams. The bill passed unanimously with one senator absent and now moves to the House for further consideration.  KOBI-TV
  • State officials encourage Medford taxpayers to use a free public computer kiosk at the regional office on Aviation Way during business hours Monday to Friday, noting that electronic tax refunds will begin Feb. 17 while paper returns are delayed until early April.  MedfordAlert
  • Rogue Valley–based Mercy Flights supports House Bill 4053 (which proposes EMS workforce training) to strengthen Oregon’s emergency services. CEO Sheila Clough testified in Salem on behalf of the Oregon State Ambulance Association as lawmakers consider the measure.  KOBI-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Rogue River Equestrian team may not compete in the 2026 Oregon High School Equestrian Teams season this spring after two performers pulled out before the Southern District's first meet (additional details are pending).  Rogue River Press
  • The first Free Fishing Weekend begins this Saturday and Sunday statewide and lets both residents and nonresidents fish without licenses, tags, or endorsements. It is the first of three free fishing opportunities this year.  Rogue River Press
