  • Medford’s local animal rescue organization SoHumane saved 9 dogs from a crowded shelter in Shasta that faced possible euthanasia— the dogs are now safe in Medford and will be available for adoption by the end of next week.  KDRV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday afternoon, Medford fire crews responded to a blaze at a manufactured home on the 2600 block of Glory C Road after a neighbor alerted emergency services—damage was limited to the living room and kitchen, no one was hurt, and investigators are checking a possible link to a charging electronic device.  MedfordAlert

  • Southern Oregon winemakers are getting ready for higher costs as new tariffs may force them to raise bottle prices—supplies like glass and barrels are expected to cost more. They are watching the situation closely and may buy materials sooner to lower future expenses.  KDRV

CRIME NEWS

  • In Jackson County nearly 750 people facing criminal charges do not have a lawyer—a shortage that adds to over 4,000 unrepresented cases statewide and could risk their constitutional rights.  KOBI-TV
  • A commercial electrician on Rogue River Drive in Eagle Point used a pocket knife to fend off an unprovoked attack on Thursday morning—wounding the assailant who was taken to a local hospital for surgery on superficial injuries as investigators begin their probe.  KOBI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • An Oregon Senate bill passed to limit single-use plastics would require customers to ask for plastic utensils and condiment packages at food places starting in 2026. The bill would also restrict lodging establishments to offer plastic health or beauty product containers only on request starting in 2028—Ashland State Representative Pam Marsh is reviewing the bill before it moves to the House for a vote.  KOBI-TV
  • The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division is inspecting watercraft dry docks this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Marine Patrol Building at 620 Antelope Road in White City—boat owners who pass will receive their 2025 state safety sticker with help from the U.S. Coast Guard.  KOBI-TV
  • The NRCS in Southern Oregon is now fully staffed after federal probationary workers were re-hired, so local farmers can get vital data on drought, avalanche risks, water quality, grants, and water level forecasts. The agency will move forward with its support programs—restoring essential services after recent staffing cuts.  KOBI-TV
