COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Phoenix High School students held a talent show to raise funds for 17-year-old Katy, who is battling PANDAS and recovering from a stroke; another fundraiser, a staff versus student basketball game, will take place on Tuesday, March 17 at the school gym with all proceeds benefiting her family through Southern Oregon Sparrow Clubs.  KOBI-TV
  • John Howell got official approval to install a Wind Phone at Jacksonville Cemetery to let people send messages to departed loved ones. The installation, which includes a vintage phone * with a copper sign, is set to finish by early next month.  KOBI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Britt Music and Arts Festival adds nine new nights of music and comedy with acts like Modest Mouse, Whiskey Myers, Elle King plus comedians Jeff Dunham and Gabriel Iglesias. Public ticket sales begin March 27 at 10 a.m. PST.  KDRV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Cynthia Harris and Steve Morgan are restoring Jackson Creek in Jacksonville by removing blackberry bushes and replanting native species, with the work set to finish within the next three years. The couple, who have restored two other creeks, fund most of the project themselves plus receive help from a local rebate and grant.  KOBI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission will meet in Medford March 19-20 with a field tour and a Friday meeting starting at 8 a.m. at Roxy Ann Grange on Spring Street, where they will consider wildlife habitat rules, grass carp stocking exceptions & land purchase for area expansion with public participation options.  KDRV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Calvin Livingston turned an old school bus into The Sauna Bus, a mobile sauna offering hour-long sessions with heat, cold plunges and rest. The service is now available across Rogue Valley (designed to boost wellness and bring people together).  KDRV
