- ➤ Federal funding was cut by $1.7M from CASA programs meant to support 19 groups that help children in foster care—leaving organizations to seek alternative funding. Executive Director Jennifer Mylenek said her agency had to consider reducing staff and advocates—forcing a greater reliance on community donations. KOBI-TV

- ➤ Local author and photographer Christopher Briscoe finished his book—The Women of Ukraine—bringing back stories of strength and courage from Ukrainian women he met during the war. He plans to return to Ukraine in May to work on his next book about Ukrainian children. KOBI-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Medford Police Department honored Constable George Prescott over the weekend after he was fatally shot while serving an arrest warrant on Peach Street on March 16 (92 years ago) and remains the only officer to have died in the line of duty. A memorial mosaic sculpture by local artist (Karen Rycheck) stands in front of the police station and Prescott Park on Roxy Ann Peak is named in his honor. KOBI-TV
- ➤ State legislators are reviewing proposals to change the Oregon Surplus Refund that gives taxpayers a credit when revenue exceeds projections. One bill—Senate Bill 1177 backed by Sen Golden—would deposit surplus funds in a trust to generate interest for wildfire programs, but it still awaits a hearing. KOBI-TV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Oregon legislators and healthcare leaders have introduced Senate Bill 537 to require new measures that prevent violence in healthcare facilities—92% of nurses in the state's largest nursing union reported incidents last year. Healthcare professionals are advocating for the bill today in Salem and its first hearing is set for Thursday. KOBI-TV

- ➤ Mt. Ashland Ski Area announced Monday that it will extend its winter season by adding two bonus weekends after its planned closing on April 13. Skiers and snowboarders will ride select lifts on April 19, 20, 26 and 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at a discounted rate — private lessons will be available. KOBI-TV
