- ➤ Percy is a lively 3-year-old Samoyed mix at Jackson County Animal Shelter who enjoys running in the play yard and cooling off in the pool—he has learned basic commands and needs regular grooming and exercise. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 21-year-old man pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted assault and unlawful use of a weapon after he fired multiple shots during a May 6th shooting on Gene Cameron Way in east Medford and he received a sentence of 50 months in prison plus three years of post-prison supervision—no one was injured in the incident. - ➤ Authorities in rural Central Point said a suspect wanted on multiple charges died by apparent suicide during a high-risk traffic stop on the 6000 block of Table Rock Road—he fled at 2:10 p.m. after threatening a woman with a firearm during a March 16 domestic altercation on Orr Drive. - ➤ After more than 25 years of live music, Johnny B’s in downtown Medford closed its doors forever—this venue in the historic Woolworth Building was known for hosting local and touring artists and thanked the community for its support. MedfordAlert
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ashland Middle School qualified for the Oregon Battle of the Books State Championship while Rogue River Elementary School hosted the regional tournament for sixth to eighth graders from five counties—photos were taken by Scott Lake. Rogue River Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Fish and Wildlife Commission approved funding for two Access and Habitat projects that will keep nearly two million acres of private land open for public hunting access. The funding will continue increased Oregon State Police enforcement on these lands. Rogue River Press
- ➤ The Senate passed the HALT Fentanyl Act, a bill that would permanently list fentanyl copycat drugs as dangerous and lower mandatory prison terms—moves that Oregon lawmakers say do not address addiction's root causes. Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley voted against the measure—warning it only makes punishments harsher—and the House will soon vote on the updated version before it goes to the president. KOBI-TV
