COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Jacksonville residents received notices of homeowners' insurance cancellations despite living in Firewise neighborhoods and taking steps like clearing blackberries—measures that many said did not stop insurers from ending policies amid ongoing industry losses. Local agent Ginny Buck explained that insurers are dropping coverage and homeowners who are declined can opt for the Oregon FAIR Plan.  KDRV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A three-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Table Rock Rd and Vilas Rd in Central Point around 8:12 a.m. Monday when a left-turning vehicle collided with a northbound car that rolled over and a detached canopy struck a stationary vehicle—no injuries were reported and the road cleared by 9 a.m.  KDRV
  • A three-vehicle rollover crash occurred around 8:12 a.m. at the Table Rock Rd and Villas Rd intersection in Central Point—no injuries were reported and tow trucks cleared the road by 9 a.m.  KDRV

CRIME NEWS

  • Josephine County police arrested 31-year-old Jonathon Foulk on charges of first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, menacing and criminal mischief after he assaulted a man on Sunday at a home on Northeast D St near Terry Lane—detectives said the victim was treated for head injuries at Three Rivers Medical Center before being released.  KDRV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A family of five beavers was relocated to the Cascade-Siskiyou region last month as part of a six-year wetland restoration project led by the Vesper Meadow Education Program. The rescued beavers from a private property on the Rogue River arrived safely with willow bundles — apples and carrots — and are expected to help improve water quality downstream.  KOBI-TV
  • As spring warms up, bears are more active in Ashland—residents are warned not to feed or approach them—and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife advises keeping trash secured to reduce conflict.  KOBI-TV
  • The city of Medford is hosting free wood debris chipper events to help reduce wildfire risks by accepting clean tree branches at Donohue-Frohnmayer Park on March 26th and Fichtner-Mainwaring Park on March 27th (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.), while not taking grass trimmings, weeds, trash, or construction materials.  KOBI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • ODOT reminded drivers in Medford to remove their studded tires before April 1—using these tires damages roads and increases maintenance costs. Law enforcement will issue $165 citations after March 31 if drivers do not comply.  KOBI-TV
  • Medford Rep. Kim Wallan urged the U.S. Attorney General to launch a federal investigation into the Oregon Youth Authority after allegations of sexual abuse emerged at the MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility in Woodburn—she said one firing would not fix the deeper issues. A $51 million lawsuit was filed by 10 people who said they were abused while in custody.  KDRV
