  • The Medford Children’s Museum will host its first-ever Hero's Day tomorrow at 11 a.m.—kids will learn about key local jobs from groups like Medford Public Works, Rogue Disposal, the Coast Guard, and our fire and police departments. The event runs until 5 p.m. with a special fire truck display from 12 to 2, and admission is required with no extra fee.  KDRV
  • Christian is a 1-year, 8-month-old Border Collie mix who has been in the shelter for over 260 days and is now ready for a permanent home in Medford + his adoption fee is waived under Jackson County Animal Services’ spring promotion that runs until March 30. The shelter notes he is smart and shows good basic training, and adopters are encouraged to schedule a visit to see if he fits with their household.  MedfordAlert

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Kohl’s Corporation announced that it will close 27 underperforming stores on March 29 as part of a restructuring plan aimed at reducing costs and improving performance. The company will shut down its e-commerce fulfillment center in San Bernardino in May while its Medford store at Rogue Valley Mall will remain open—its Portland location is set to close.  MedfordAlert

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new 25% auto tariff will take effect April 2 and is expected to drive up the price of cars and parts in Medford—while Medford Nissan says its American manufacturing investments may ease some costs. Operations manager Ron Kubota of World Famous Autos warned that rising parts prices and higher reconditioning costs could lead to reduced customer interest.  KOBI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Oregon Health Authority announced that about $117 million in federal grants were cut by the US Department of Health and Human Services (via CDC and SAMHSA) and that several COVID-19 programs in behavioral health, immunizations, and disease surveillance have been affected. The funding cuts impacted all nine federally recognized Tribal communities (and every county) in Oregon, and OHA planned to evaluate the decision’s impact on health services.  MedfordAlert
