COMMUNITY NEWS

  • ACCESS has seen a 17% increase—1,000 more visits—over the past three months as rising food, utility and gas costs push more Jackson County residents to seek help; the organization now runs 35 pantries plus a mobile unit to serve about 25,000 individuals.  KOBI-TV
  • On March 21, more than 55 volunteers cleaned and restored Wolf Creek Shooting Lanes and nearby forest roads near Medford, removing graffiti and replacing vandalized signs (photo courtesy of ODF) to support ongoing community use.  Rogue River Press
  • The Salvation Army of Jackson County unveiled a new Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) canteen, a mobile kitchen funded by the Lilly Endowment to serve food and drinks during emergencies. It will deploy monthly and appear at the Pearl Blossom Parade on April 11.  KDRV
  • The Southern Oregon Beekeepers Association reported that an accident left broken hives scattered along the forest near the highway (photo by Tristen Tartaglia). The Oregon State Beekeepers Association is working to build community knowledge and resilience in beekeeping.  Rogue River Press

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A couple weeks ago, a Medford dog trainer had his leg broken in two places when a client's Dutch Shepherd grabbed it like a toy; he spent one day in the hospital and is now back at Prodogz Training (he holds no grudge against the dog).  KOBI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • OSF opens its spring season today with A Midsummer Night's Dream in Ashland — a treasured tradition since 1935 — drawing visitors with fresh storytelling.  Rogue River Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Lower Table Rock Trail reopened on Wednesday after renovations improved accessibility just in time for wildflower season — new interpretive signs will be added soon and guided hikes with wildlife professionals will start next weekend along the Oak Savannah Loop Trail. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal judge blocked an executive order that would have cut PBS+NPR funding, ruling it unlawful and protecting free speech in local media. The decision, made on Tuesday, offers a small victory for Southern Oregon PBS even as uncertainty about long-term support remains.  KOBI-TV
