EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students from North and South Medford High Schools are in Italy on a cultural exchange program visiting Rome, Turin and Medford's sister city Alba. They spent two weeks with local host families and will return to Medford Saturday. KOBI-TV
- ➤ Phoenix High School will host its annual PHS Got Talent show tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. at Rose Street Theater for $3 to support Sparrow Emiliano—a young boy with health challenges who receives daily therapies and medical care, with audience votes directed by donation boxes. The school will also hold a Staff vs. Student Basketball Game on April 10 for $2, with fans encouraged to wear green for staff or blue for students. KDRV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, a federal judge ruled against the BLM’s plan to log old-growth forests in Josephine County after KS Wild filed a lawsuit in 2023. KS Wild Conservation Director George Sexton said the ruling upholds late-successional reserves (protected areas) and mandates the agency focus on fuels reduction and fire resiliency instead of logging. - ➤ Crater Lake National Park will start a multi-year project in 2026 to repair Cleetwood Cove Trail and the marina—this work will cancel swimming and boat tours until the trail reopens in summer 2029. The project will use helicopters to move equipment and repair hazards over three summers from 2026 to 2028. KOBI-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A state report shows Oregon’s old bridges need repair and replacing all of them will take 900 years at current funding—this includes the Medford Viaduct built in 1962, which needs seismic upgrades. ODOT said it is keeping up with repairs but will need a long-term plan to replace some bridges to keep traffic safe. KOBI-TV
- ➤ Oregon taxpayers who do not owe taxes will be able to file their returns after April 15 and claim refunds for up to three years. Free tax filing services funded by the state's Tax Infrastructure Grant Program will resume in May to help with notices (including translation support) until October 15. MedfordAlert

- ➤ Rogue X in Medford will hold an amateur boxing event Saturday that will feature fighters ranging from 13 to 64 years old; doors open at 4 p.m. and fights start at 5 p.m. Kirk Gibson — 62 years old — will make his amateur debut after eight weeks of training while proceeds support Spartan Boxing’s youth programs. - ➤ Freshman Trevor Dirks led Rogue River with a score of 106 in the season's first stroke-play event at the four-team Grants Pass Golf Club Boys' Invitational on March 31 — his team finished second overall. Rogue River Press
