COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown Medford will host the 72nd annual Pear Blossom Festival from Friday, April 11 through Saturday, April 12, drawing an expected 30,000 visitors for events including the Pear Blossom Parade at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday along a set route from Beatty Street to Mistletoe Street — the festival will also feature a street fair, scholarship pageant and Race Day activities.  MedfordAlert
  • Medford announced Wednesday that its half-mile paved trail at Prescott Park will become its first TRACK Trail to offer an interactive outdoor experience for kids and families. The project—developed with Oregon Parks Forever and Kids in Parks—will be ready by the end of June.  KOBI-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Medford Police updated their search for Nicole Caldera and her children, who were reported missing on April 8 in a brown 2002 Chevy Blazer after traveling through Cave Junction on April 1—authorities say the group may be headed to Crescent City or another coastal area and could include Nicole’s husband JR, so anyone with information is urged to call the Missing Persons Unit immediately.  MedfordAlert

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At South Medford High School, a false alarm on April 9th at about 12:20 p.m. triggered a lockdown after the Emergency Response Button was accidentally activated—officials confirmed there was no threat and quickly lifted the lockdown. School administrators said they will review procedures to prevent future accidental incidents.  MedfordAlert

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Medford is in talks with the Emeralds to build a new $90M stadium that could bring the team to Jackson County. City council will work with the team to see if the deal is feasible—early research shows it may take 23 years for revenues to cover costs.  KOBI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Medford Rogue Rotary held a lunch meeting where Manny Munoz — executive director of Gamerosity — explained his organization has delivered over 1,000 hero packages with books, games and gear to children with cancer since 2011 when an Xbox was first given to a 15-year-old fighting leukemia; a charity poker event is planned for November at Rogue Valley County Club.  KOBI-TV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Medford’s Rogue Regency Inn, located off I-5 on Biddle Road, was listed for sale at $14 million with Pulver and Leever Real Estate; the hotel was built in 1989, sits on over 5 acres covering 117,000 square feet with more than 200 rooms, and features a restaurant, spa, fitness center — and pool.  KOBI-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Wild turkey hunters in Southwest Oregon will begin the season on April 15 and it will run through May 31—local guides say the region offers some of the best gobbler hunting in the state.  Rogue River Press
