- ➤ The Pacific Power Foundation announced $312,675 in grants to support safety, health and wellness programs. A total of 98 grants were awarded to local nonprofits such as the Klamath Falls Little League and Klamath Basin Senior Citizens Center — projects that will help improve services in communities across Washington, Oregon and northern California. - ➤ Today, the 72nd Annual Pear Blossom Festival will kick off in downtown Medford with a run at 7:00 a.m. and a parade at 11:00 a.m. The street fair will open at 12:00 p.m. at Pear Blossom Park — the beer garden will be open from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. KOBI-TV
- ➤ The 2025 Pear Blossom Festival kicks off today and presents a look at the history of the Rogue Valley pear industry—highlighting how early orchards grew into a staple of local agriculture amid challenges like rising costs, changing weather and plant diseases. Local experts point out that although pears have been Oregon's state fruit since 2005, many growers now struggle with fewer orchards and tougher economics. KOBI-TV

- ➤ Logos Public Charter School broke ground on a new tutoring and performing arts center on Thursday at Wes Howard Foundation Sports Park. The $7.6 million facility (over 17,000 square feet) will open in fall and feature 20 meeting spaces, office areas, and a new music classroom, with funds provided directly by the school since charter schools cannot issue bonds. - ➤ Rob Brown, a South Medford High graduate and Sparrow Clubs board member, began his senior project in 2002 on charitable giving, which led to a 23-year legacy supporting children with medical needs. - ➤ Wildlife Images and Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass has cared for sick and orphaned wildlife since 1981 and now uses animal ambassadors like skunks Salt and Pepper—who can no longer spray—to show why wild animals should not be kept as pets.
