ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Wednesday, a motorcyclist sustained severe injuries in a crash with a car on Crater Lake Ave. — police closed lanes from Alpine Ct. to Temple Dr. for over two hours while investigating, and his condition remains unknown.  KOBI-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods closed its Public Lands store at Northgate Marketplace to double its size by expanding its main shop into the empty space—renovation is underway and the new 90,000 square foot store will open before the holiday season while the current store stays open.   • Florin George Ionita, a Romanian national living in Garden Grove, California, was sentenced today to a 54-month federal prison term for an ATM-skimming scheme that stole over $176,000 from victims in Oregon and Maine, and he must serve a five-year supervised release and pay $176,922 in restitution.  MedfordAlert
  • James David Lee Hergett, a 34-year-old from Ashland, was arrested after he allegedly held a man captive for two days and went on a crime spree that began with vandalism on April 12 and included assaulting several people—including two officers who tased him—leading to a Jackson County grand jury indictment on nine charges and a search of his home that seized multiple firearms.  KOBI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Earlier this month, the Medford School District Budget Committee held a question and answer session on the proposed 2025-26 budget as officials noted the district is in a strong position but warned that larger federal cuts could force spending reductions.
