ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A structure fire occurred Monday afternoon on the 1300 block of Sequoia Circle in southwest Medford—emergency crews arrived around 4:16 p.m. and had controlled the blaze by 4:40 p.m.—with no reported injuries and residents advised to use alternate routes while mop-up operations continued.  MedfordAlert
  • Three kids, a dog, and three hamsters were saved from a house fire on Sequoia Cir. around 3:45 p.m. Monday when a brave neighbor helped them escape—firefighters later reported that the garage and part of the attic were destroyed and the home became unlivable as investigators looked for the cause.  KOBI-TV
  • Firefighters are on scene at a structure fire at 1342 Sequoia Circle in Medford with a large plume of smoke seen and part of the area blocked off — crews work through the roof as the incident develops.  KDRV
  • Medford Fire crews responded to a structure fire at 1342 Sequoia Circle in South Medford that started in the garage—downing the blaze and mopping up while investigators review its cause.  KDRV

CRIME NEWS

  • A 29-year-old man was arrested and taken to Jackson County Jail after an early morning crash on Monday at 1:44 a.m. at the intersection of Stewart Ave and Maple Grove Dr, where police reported three people were involved and one male passenger suffered serious leg injuries while a female passenger sustained minor injuries as the investigation continues.  KDRV
  • The district attorney’s office dropped murder charges against Jose Alfredo Sotelo-Palma after new witnesses emerged that weakened the state’s case in connection with the fatal shooting of Luis Ayala Zavala at a marijuana processing facility in Ruch on November 28.  KOBI-TV
  • At about 1:44 a.m.—Medford police and fire crews responded to a suspected DUII crash at Stewart Avenue and Maple Grove Drive where a 29-year-old man identified as Alberto Perez De Gaona was arrested on charges of assault in the second degree, DUII, reckless endangering, and reckless driving as a male passenger sustained serious leg injuries requiring extraction and transport to Portland for treatment while a female passenger suffered minor injuries and the STAR Team was activated to assist in the investigation.  MedfordAlert

  • Students at Phoenix High School learned how K9 teams work during a demonstration by Jackson and Josephine K9 Search and Rescue on Monday, where AG Science teacher and Dog Team Leader Melissa Madsen led the exercise to show real-life uses for animal science and emergency services classes.  KOBI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Medford announced that starting Monday, April 21, the eastbound lanes of Barnett Road between Black Oak Drive and Murphy Road will be closed nightly from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until Thursday, May 1 as Central Pipeline Inc. works to upsize a sewer main — a detour will be in place and the schedule may change with weather.  MedfordAlert
