COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Southern Oregon Subaru presented a $39,100 check to SoHumane today—continuing a 13-year donation campaign that has totaled $343,407—and the funds will help pay for medical care and food at the nearly full shelter.  KOBI-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • RADE, assisted by the Grants Pass Police Department and other law enforcement agencies, seized over 10 ounces of fentanyl—equivalent to more than 149 thousand lethal doses—that was headed to Grants Pass as part of an ongoing investigation.  KOBI-TV
  • A 29-year-old man, Alberto Perez De Gaona, was arrested for DUI, assault and reckless endangerment after a single-vehicle crash just before 2:00 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Stewart and Maple Grove Drive in Medford that injured a male passenger with serious leg injuries expected to be taken to Portland for treatment and a female passenger with minor injuries, as police reported three people were in the vehicle.  KOBI-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Human Bean partnered with Trees for the Future for its Earth Day Giveback and introduced two new beverages—each drink purchase planted one tree with a goal of adding 55k trees to over 213k already planted. The event ran all day at all Human Bean locations — it supported reforestation in coffee-growing regions.  KOBI-TV
  • The Bessie Creek Fire burning northeast of Prospect grew to 10 acres Tuesday and firefighters had lined 60% and mopped up 20% by 5:30 p.m.—no evacuations were ordered and crews continue to work to contain the blaze.  KOBI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Medford City Hall began new safety measures on Monday—visitors must now enter through the South Ivy Street doorway designated as entrance A and pass a metal detector while security guards cover business hours and after-hours meetings.  KOBI-TV
  • Today, the Bureau of Land Management distributed over $27.7 million in timber revenue payments to 18 counties in western Oregon, supporting services such as emergency response and education. The funds come from timber harvested on federal lands managed under the O&C and CBWR programs and help bolster roughly 2,000 local jobs and more than $1 billion in economic activity.  MedfordAlert
  • Today, the Oregon Army National Guard will land a Blackhawk helicopter at South Medford High School — scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. — as part of a career exploration event for students. A similar program will happen later at North Medford High School to let students learn about military aviation and emergency response roles.  MedfordAlert
