COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local volunteer group—the Medford Food Project—collects 25,000 to 30,000 pounds of food every other month using over 150 neighborhood coordinators to help local food banks amid funding freezes. Board president Scott Perry said the project will hold its next pick-up on the second Saturday in June.  KOBI-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Construction began on Tuesday for Southern Oregon Goodwill’s newest donation and retail store in North Medford off Excel Drive, where the board members, staff, the design team, and the Medford Chamber of Commerce attended the groundbreaking. It will open in April 2026 and add 50 new positions—delivering over $2 million in wages and offering an eight‑week paid internship program for 144 interns.  KOBI-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A former Medford nurse, Dani Marie Schofield, accused of diverting fentanyl from patients and replacing it with tap water, has her pretrial conference moved to May 28 to let the parties discuss scheduling matters on the record—state lawyer Patrick Green confirmed the change.  KDRV
  • Two San Antonio, Texas men were sentenced to federal prison—one man pleaded guilty on Wednesday after planning to travel to Southern Oregon to commit an armed robbery while posing as DEA agents.  Rogue River Press
  • A woman accused of fatally striking a biker in October while under the influence has her pretrial conference rescheduled to August 18 after her defense argued they need extra time for expert review—she now faces nine charges including manslaughter and DUI.  KDRV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Medford Planning Department will hold a pre-application conference on May 7th to review a proposed 552-unit apartment complex on two vacant parcels covering 61.38 acres in northeast Medford. The plan includes multiple zoning designations, 961 parking spaces, planned street extensions, and infrastructure adjustments—potentially making it one of the largest residential developments in 15 years.  MedfordAlert

  • During its first 3A Southern Oregon Conference series, Rogue River Jr. Sr. High baseball learned that strong pitching is key to staying competitive—when the pitcher left, the team struggled to keep up against Brookings.
