- ➤ The Rogue Valley Food System Network, a local group of food leaders, reported that food insecurity in our region is higher than in the rest of the state and that many children and students lack reliable access to meals. The group has developed an action plan — building on lessons from Covid-19 and the Almeda fire — that calls for investments in our local farm economy and reductions in food waste to strengthen the food system. - ➤ A mother and daughter duo from California are in jail after passing counterfeit bills at several Jackson County businesses — deputies arrested the 42-year-old Samantha O’Neil and her 18-year-old daughter Jamie O’Neil Saturday morning at the Medford Hobby Lobby parking lot, where they also found over seven grams of meth and a meth pipe on Samantha. - ➤ Medford Police are investigating an early Friday morning assault — a man was found unconscious with a serious head injury at Lowe’s parking lot on Highway 62 — and he is in intensive care as a suspect remains detained. KOBI-TV
- ➤ A California woman and her daughter were arrested in Medford Saturday after businesses reported receiving fake $20 bills—deputies tracked a silver 2005 Toyota Camry with California plates, searched it at a local parking lot, uncovered numerous counterfeit bills, and found 7.2 grams of meth and a pipe with the woman. - ➤ The Ashland Independent Film Festival completed its 24th year this past weekend — drawing one of its largest turnouts ever. It will begin accepting film submissions in September — with plans underway for special events celebrating its 25th anniversary. KOBI-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Southern Oregon University will raise both resident and non-resident undergraduate tuition and fees by (4.97%) this fall after its board of trustees approved the increase, and President Rick Bailey warned that higher costs may keep some students from enrolling. He advised prospective students to meet with a financial aid advisor before making enrollment decisions. KOBI-TV

- ➤ Medford is moving forward with a $300M wastewater treatment plant upgrade mandated by new state rules to protect the Rogue River—work will finish by September 2028. Bonds and federal loans will pay for the project, and sewer rates for residents will increase over the next decade. KOBI-TV
- ➤ Medford Police hosted their Drug Take Back and Rogue Shred event on Saturday at the city hall parking lot—residents could safely dispose of confidential documents and unwanted prescriptions in provided bags. KOBI-TV
