  • Volunteers spent over 140 hours in March cleaning local parks and Eastwood Cemetery and removed nearly 1,400 pounds of trash. Efforts at Pear Blossom, Jackson, Donahue-Frohnmayer, Veterans and Hawthorne Parks cleared debris and graffiti—restoring community spaces.  KDRV

  • Today, patrons at The Phoodery in Phoenix purchased fresh-caught ocean fish and live Dungeness crab — a rare treat in Southern Oregon — as the pop-up market began at 2 p.m. and sold out quickly.  KOBI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Southern Oregon is preparing for its first-ever Rogue Week, a ten-day festival from May 24—June 1 that will showcase the region's innovation and diverse community; the event will feature the AI for Good Conference on May 29—30 in downtown Medford.  KDRV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Parks, Recreation and Facilities department is expanding wildfire fuel mitigation in Medford parks and open spaces after the damaging Almeda Fire of 2020. So far, strategic vegetation thinning and removal have treated about 200 acres in Larson Creek and Bear Creek Greenway—this effort is supported by funding from grants, the General Fund, the Park Utility Fund, and marijuana tax revenue.  KDRV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today at the Medford Armory, the Oregon Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 186th Infantry Regiment hosts a free 'Guard for a Day' Open House — from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — where residents can explore military vehicles, gear, and combat medic demonstrations as well as join a virtual town hall for updates on soldiers deployed in Egypt's Sinai.  MedfordAlert
  • The southbound I-5 on-ramp at Exit 148, Rice Hill, will close on Monday, May 5 for bridge repair work and will reopen before Memorial Day weekend. Drivers must follow a four-mile detour (available for use) during the closure.  Rogue River Press
  • Medford hosted its first Council Town Hall on April 30 at the Police Headquarters to help residents learn about emergency kits, evacuation zones, and other preparedness steps as councilors and the mayor discussed fire season and wildfire mitigation — the next town hall will be held on May 15 at the Smullin Health Education Center.  KDRV
