ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two students were injured Friday when a large tree fell near their group during a field trip at Mt. Ashland, and staff immediately followed safety procedures by taking the students to a hospital for treatment.  KDRV

CRIME NEWS

  • Medford Police reported that illegal encampments dropped to 13 in March from 186 three years ago, as its Livability Team — set up in 2019 to bridge law enforcement and community outreach — has expanded its staff for increased monitoring and support.  KOBI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Mary’s School held a signing ceremony Monday morning where seniors Cici Baida and Rocco Primerano announced plans to continue their sports at college—Cici will row at St. Mary’s College in California and Rocco will play soccer at Truckee Meadows Junior College; Tai Zimmerman will join Edmonds College for basketball.  KOBI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • ODOT is building 113 ADA curb ramps in Ashland, Medford, Central Point, White City and Talent and will change operations to reduce downtown impacts on small businesses after meeting with the Ashland Chamber. The adjustments include fewer overlapping work zones and less on-street parking use.  KOBI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Asante said today it is working to stabilize finances amid rising labor costs and supply expenses in Medford — no immediate job cuts were announced though the CEO expects up to 300 roles to be eliminated in coming months.  MedfordAlert

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A proposal for a four-story live-work housing project near Liberty Park is under early review and will be discussed at a Land Development Committee Zoom meeting on May 6 at 303 Boardman St; the plan would replace an existing residence with an 11,888 sqft building of 10 units.  MedfordAlert
