CRIME NEWS

  • Medford Police are investigating a shooting near the southside of Hawthorne Park and are looking for a suspect, while traffic is impacted on 8th and E Main Street — from Almond to Riverside — with lanes closed and the closure expected to extend.  KDRV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The National Trust for Historic Preservation named Oregon Caves and Chateau one of America’s 11 most endangered historic places, and advocates are planning to raise funds for its restoration. Governor Tina Kotek expressed support to the Friends of Oregon Caves and Chateau for an upcoming fundraising campaign that aims to raise $15 million to $20 million + pay for repairs like seismic stabilization and improved wheelchair access.  KOBI-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Pacific Power announced Monday that it is expanding wildfire safety measures by enhancing weather monitoring, managing vegetation and upgrading its electrical system—steps that may lower fire ignition risk but could lead to unplanned outages.  MedfordAlert

  • Logan Vaughan, a candidate for the Medford School Board who once ran for mayor, pleaded guilty to menacing in January while charges of stalking, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct were dropped — he is one of nine candidates seeking one of three open seats in the May 20 special election.  KOBI-TV
  • On Tuesday, Governor Tina Kotek warned that wildfires will be more dangerous this summer as officials met at the state fire cache and signed a proclamation naming May Wildfire Awareness Month—state leaders detailed enhanced detection tools and increased personnel.   • White-water rafting on the New Klamath will begin this summer after dam removal changed the river’s twists and turns. Indigo Creek Outfitters has mapped a route from the old Copco Reservoir through Ward’s Canyon to the former Iron Gate site—an area that now flows for 45 miles—offering a new adventure for rafters.  KOBI-TV
  • Anglers in Medford now can fish for spring Chinook in the Rogue River — a strong and tasty catch — as trout stocking has ramped up so many waters will soon have thousands of new fish. The boost in fish numbers gives local anglers another reason to enjoy the season.  Rogue River Press
