- ➤ An independent engineering firm has concluded that the North Medford High School gym roof collapsed because of poor glue bonding at the scarf joints — a factor that, along with overestimated wood strength, led the beams to be overstressed under normal loads. KDRV

- ➤ A 38-year-old man was shot near Hawthorne Park on Wednesday at about 1:40 p.m. on Bear Creek Greenway and is in critical condition in hospital—suspect William K. Triplett was arrested within 15 minutes walking near Tinseltown Theater after an argument escalated. KOBI-TV

- ➤ Downtown Medford will host Art in Bloom festival on May 10 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and May 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. — marking the event’s 20th anniversary after a four-year break — where more than 60 vendors will display art, floral arrangements, and crafts in Lithia Commons and nearby streets to support community nonprofits. - ➤ Gov. Kotek declared May Wildfire Awareness Month at a briefing in Salem and warned that wildfire season will be more severe with increased danger expected by July and August, leading to peak risk in September. State officials plan to boost fire response by hiring seasonal firefighters and asking lawmakers for a $150 million fund to cover emergency costs. KDRV

- ➤ A new health center will open this fall inside the Rogue River School District’s Early Learning Center (225 Oak Street) to provide medical and mental health services for kids and teens. It will serve children ages 2 to 18 on weekdays (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) as part of a partnership between La Clinica and the school district. KOBI-TV
- ➤ A Buckets for Breakthrough fundraiser held on Wednesday in Medford added nearly $10,000 by its halfway point to over $560,000 raised for six-year-old William Jackson, who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. His family said the campaign will continue as they push toward an $800,000 goal to begin manufacturing treatment. KOBI-TV
- ➤ Réal Brasseur, a longtime teacher at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, was admitted to Providence Medford Medical Center on April 25 after a heart attack led to heart failure and tests later revealed he has an aggressive blood cancer (hybrid myelodysplastic syndrome progressing into acute myeloid leukemia) that left him critically ill. He was transferred to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland on May 3 and his wife Cheri stands by his side as doctors wait 7 to 10 days for insurance approval of targeted chemotherapy. - ➤ The Southern Oregon Open will return to Medford on May 10 and May 11, drawing nearly 200 basketball teams from across the West Coast and Nevada to compete at Rogue X.
