COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rogue Community Cat Rescue works to trap, neuter, and return unowned feral cats in Jackson County so the animals do not breed or fight and to avoid euthanasia. The group will host its Miles for Meows Walkathon fundraiser on June 28 at Fichtner-Mainwaring Park—families can join with varying entry fees and T-shirt options available.  KOBI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Elementary students in the Rogue Valley are visiting the 38th annual Children’s Heritage Fair at Hanley Farm today — they try activities like roping cattle, gold panning and milking a cow to learn about 19th century pioneer life. Over 1,200 4th graders will experience the fair over the next two weeks as teachers note the event ties in with their curriculum.  KOBI-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Oregon Department of Forestry is warning residents to use caution when burning debris after 32 escaped burns on protected land doubled from last year—calling for safety measures like contacting the local fire district and keeping water nearby. Public affairs officer Jessica Neujahr said if residents miss the June 1 deadline, they can resume burning in the fall after fire season.  KOBI-TV
  • ODF protected lands reported 32 escaped debris burns in 2025—nearly double the number from this time last year. The Oregon Department of Forestry said a dry April may have increased risks, and investigations will hold responsible parties accountable for fire operation costs.  KDRV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Tina Kotek signed a bill that lets lottery winners keep their identities private by ending the public disclosure of names and addresses. The law will affect lottery tickets purchased in tax years starting January 1, 2026 — it will take effect 91 days after the adjournment of the 2025 regular legislative session and allows winners to reveal their information with written consent.  KOBI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rogue Community College held a blood drive with the American Red Cross on Monday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its Higher Education Center at 101 S Bartlett St in Medford—walk-ins and appointments were accepted.  KDRV
  • Jackson County officials warn that warm weather and extra rain have created ideal conditions for a heavier mosquito season, prompting increased testing for West Nile virus and surveillance for the invasive species found in Talent. The mosquito control team sprays EPA-approved pesticides (applied by certified operators) early in the morning and is offering free mosquito fish (Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) to help reduce breeding sites.  KDRV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A new housing development is being built in southwest Medford at Kings Highway and Honey Bee Street—backed by Snyder Creek Development, the project offers 1600-square-foot, three-bed and two-bath units with an extra apartment above the garage. Owner Travis Snyder said the work started a year and a half ago and will add 400 rental units by 2028 to help ease the housing shortage.  KOBI-TV

  • Mt. Ashland Ski Area will replace its aging Ariel and Windsor lifts with new triple-chair fixed-grip chairlifts set for spring 2026 — the project will also widen lift corridors by removing trees along 150 feet to boost guest comfort and operational efficiency.  KOBI-TV
