COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hundreds volunteered on Saturday for the annual United Way Day of Caring in downtown Medford, where 250 tree wells were refreshed — a project that boosted walkability and community spirit. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Medford School District approved its 2026-2027 budget on May 14 that cuts 20 full-time staff amid falling enrollment and rising special education needs. Most cuts will occur via attrition and transfers, and class sizes could increase as 17 special education posts are added while 37 other roles are eliminated.  KOBI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport will receive $4,455,343 to repair and rebuild its apron pavement (the asphalt is near the end of its useful life), following nearly $14.5 million in federal funds allocated to other Oregon airports for similar upgrades.  KDRV
  • Today, ACCESS received over $13 million from the state to fund street outreach and maintain nearly 500 shelter beds in Jackson County — part of a statewide $102M program addressing homelessness.  KOBI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • 4D Recovery opened Friday on Court Street, Suites A & B, to offer free long‑term support for young adults recovering from addiction. The center is funded by Measure 110 and aims to fill a crucial gap in local services, according to Camille Ireland-Esquivel.  KOBI-TV

  • The ACCESS lottery for Phase 4 Royal Oaks opens for applications May 25 through June 3 for income-qualified Jackson County households earning 80% or less of area median income; households affected by Almeda or Obenchain fires receive priority with lottery drawings on June 5.  KDRV
