ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Medford Fire Department contained a structure fire that started in an apartment kitchen on Wednesday in the 200 block of King Street at 12:30 p.m. – firefighters evacuated nearby residents and a pet dog with no injuries reported while investigating the fire’s cause and offering fire victim assistance through the Red Cross. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Jacksonville Fire Department announced it will hire three Rogue Community College students for a two-year program starting the upcoming school year. The selected student firefighters will work 48-hour shifts with professionals—students will receive up to $5,000 per year for gear and class costs. KOBI-TV
- ➤ Three new school board members won Tuesday night's special election and joined the Medford School District Board. They said they will work to tighten the budget, support student success, and ask for community input — all to help guide future school changes. KDRV
- ➤ Oregon's First Lady Aimee Kotek Wilson visited Jackson County Public Library on Tuesday and read to families to support early childhood literacy in a program partnered with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. KDRV

- ➤ Officials are conducting a full inventory and forensic assessment of animals and seized animals will be moved to reputable facilities for specialized care — the process is ongoing. Rogue River Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Jackson County Jail started a medication-assisted treatment program that begins work with inmates at intake—this effort is part of a statewide $10 million initiative after House Bill 4002 passed—and 80 inmates have already received treatment at the Medford Treatment Center. KDRV
- ➤ Oregon Senate Bill 599 is heading to Governor Tina Kotek’s desk to stop landlords from asking about citizenship status on housing applications and to prevent related discrimination. The bill will also let landlords accept more forms of ID (driver’s license, passport, immigrant/non-immigrant visas) for housing applications. KOBI-TV
