ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A kitchen fire broke out in an apartment on the 200 block of King Street just before 12:45 p.m. Wednesday in southwest Medford but was quickly contained by fire crews who safely evacuated residents and rescued a family pet—no injuries were reported and the street reopened by early afternoon. - ➤ Newly elected Medford School Board members attended a Tuesday meeting to preview their future leadership as they will be sworn in this July. The board will interview eight candidates on June 5 to fill the vacancy left by Michelle Atkinson’s resignation — a vital step in the transition — as they plan their next moves. KDRV
- ➤ Oregon’s First Lady Aimee Kotek Wilson visited the Jackson County Public Library on Tuesday to read to families and young children as part of a statewide effort to boost early childhood literacy—she took part in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program hosted by the United Rotary Clubs of Southern Oregon. - ➤ ODF officials announced that fire season will begin June 1 at 12:01 a.m. covering 1.8 million acres in Jackson and Josephine counties—new regulations will ban debris burning, fireworks near ODF lands, and certain explosive materials while requiring a firewatch for commercial operators. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Seasonal boat inspection stations are now open statewide as the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife makes boat decontamination mandatory to guard against invasive species. In our area, stations operate on I-5 in Ashland, on Highway 101 in Brookings, and on Highway 97 in Klamath Falls — crews will also offer on-site inspections at boat ramps. KOBI-TV
- ➤ ODOT crews cleared large boulders from I-5 north of the Mount Ashland exit on Thursday morning after erosion and heavy rains in March led to a buildup of debris. They hauled dump-truck loads of material to a staging area—drivers are urged to slow down in work zones—and will continue work in the area over the coming days. KOBI-TV
