CRIME NEWS

  • On May 21 at 10:53 p.m., a Phoenix area man was arrested after a traffic stop near Highway 99 and South Stage Road—his vehicle drove erratically without valid insurance and officers found a BB gun that looked like a real gun, a banned knife, and signs of drug use—and he now faces charges of driving while suspended, felony in possession of a restricted weapon, and additional moving violations.  MedfordAlert

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Oregon Caves are open for weekend tours with tickets available online + at the visitor center, and Cave Creek Campground is open for summer camping with cashless payments required.  KOBI-TV
  • The Oregon Department of Forestry said fire season will begin on June 1 in Jackson and Josephine counties—fire danger will start low and the Industrial Fire Precaution Level will be set to 1 over 1.8 million acres after snow and rain kept early fires to a minimum.  KOBI-TV

  • Oregon U.S. Senator Ron Wyden held his annual Jackson County town hall on Sunday with about 200 attendees asking questions about medical costs and local food systems, and a community inquiry about his position on the Israel-Palestine conflict and PAC funds led to disruptions (one man booed and shouted his doubts) before Wyden reiterated his views.  KDRV
