  • Southern Oregon residents are gearing up for summer travel with plans for camping trips, river outings, coastal vacations, and long drives — state transportation officials warn of heavy road traffic in Jackson and Josephine counties.  Rogue River Press

  • A family's garage burned early this morning while parents coached a game, leaving the home unlivable from toxic smoke and their eldest son suffering seizures likely triggered by the fire — everyone escaped safely and the family now faces rebuilding.  KDRV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Rogue Workforce Partnership will host Rapid Response sessions on May 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and June 2 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the RCC/SOU Higher Education Center — 101 South Bartlett Street — to support workers facing layoffs from Asante; it will also hold a job fair on June 18 at the Padgham Pavilion to connect them with employers.  KDRV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State emergency officials are urging local residents to prepare now for one of the driest wildfire seasons in decades as drought emergencies have been declared in several counties — officials expect conditions to worsen.  Rogue River Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • This May marks one year since the state fire marshal partnered with IIBHS to boost wildfire resilience across Oregon. Officials launched an educational campaign on the first five feet around homes and updated wildfire codes to help communities reduce risks as the next season approaches.  KDRV
  • Rogue Valley law enforcement agencies will host a recruiting event this Friday at 4 p.m. at Ethos Training Center in Phoenix, featuring interactive presentations and insights into the hiring process. Attendees can meet officers, corrections staff and dispatchers and enjoy food and raffles during the event.  KOBI-TV
  • The Jackson County Library District Board approved staffing cuts that will remove 8.45 full-time positions and end Sunday hours at Medford and Ashland libraries. The changes go into effect mid-June as part of a plan to balance rising expenses.  KOBI-TV
  • The Bureau of Land Management invites Oregonians to join public events celebrating American independence’s 250th anniversary and its own 80 years of public land stewardship. Events are planned for later in 2026 (exact dates forthcoming) in various parts of the state.  Rogue River Press
  • Motorists in Jackson and Josephine counties will face lane closures, construction zones, and delays as state agencies continue major highway projects through the summer — impacting travel on local routes.  Rogue River Press
