COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Volunteer firefighter Aisha Mayers — who has served since 2021 — lost her 15-year-old son last Saturday morning after he suffered a fatal brain aneurysm and was airlifted to Oregon Health and Science University. His family chose to donate his organs, and Fire Chief Chris Wolfard said the decision may help save other lives.  KOBI-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Rural Metro Fire put out a 0.1-acre blaze on Red Mountain Drive in North Valley that started when a juvenile tried to dispose of papers in a backyard — firefighters later educated the youth and parents on safer disposal methods after a short garden hose failed to extinguish the flames.  KOBI-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Medford Police conducted a pedestrian sting Friday morning downtown in coordination with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the intersection of 8th and Bartlett near the SOU/RCC campus—using a decoy pedestrian to test if drivers would stop at a crosswalk and risk a $265 fine for passing a stopped vehicle.  KOBI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Travel Medford will host the inaugural Savor Southern Oregon event next weekend — the event will take place at Jacksonville’s Bigham Knoll campus with over 50 local wineries scheduled to participate. It will begin Friday, June 13 at 2:00 p.m. with a Wine Education Experience and include VIP and Grand Tastings to offer wine lovers a mix of new finds and familiar favorites.  KOBI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, the Imani Institute of Cosmetology in Medford held a career fair for Jackson County students to learn about programs in tattooing, hair, nails, aesthetics and barbering. The event offered an alternative to the traditional college path or immediate work, providing hands-on career insight — a step toward future planning.  KOBI-TV

  • A cougar was sighted near the entrance to Greenway south of John F. Fleming Veterans Memorial Park in Rogue River, and wildlife expert Pauline Hice of ThinkWild said residents should back away slowly—maintaining eye contact and sounding loud—to avoid provoking the animal.  KDRV
