- ➤ A juvenile riding an electric dirt bike died in a collision with a motorcycle near Ross Lane and Old Stage Road in rural Central Point on Thursday night (emergency responders from JCSO, Oregon State Police, Jacksonville Police Department, and Mercy Flights attended while next-of-kin were notified) as the STAR Team begins investigating while the motorcycle rider is cooperating. - ➤ William Irvin Hastings, 60, from Eagle Point was arrested Friday morning during a traffic stop on Highway 62 near Vilas Road in Medford—he is charged with second-degree murder and first-degree abuse of a corpse in connection with the death of Phoenix woman Julie Renee Hastings discovered after a welfare check on South Pacific Highway. - ➤ Kevin Heatley resigned as superintendent of Crater Lake National Park on May 30 due to staffing cutbacks and an unsustainable workload. Oregon lawmakers expressed alarm and are investigating the shortfall—one representative wrote to the Interior Department as the park seeks to fill many seasonal positions. KDRV
- ➤ The Medford City Council approved a $679.5 million budget (2025-27) at its June 4 meeting that sets aside $76.8 million in contingency funds (for emergencies) and funds upgrades to the Regional Water Reclamation Facility along with higher worker pay and benefits.
