- ➤ Community members gathered this evening at Vogel Plaza to support civil liberties and workers’ rights after the federal detention of David Huerta, president of SEIU-United Service Workers West — protestors held signs and chanted for justice and stronger protections for immigrant workers. KDRV
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Southern Oregon businesses remain optimistic about tourism as the Cleetwood Cove trail at Crater Lake will close for reconstruction in 2026, and Riverfront Lodge manager Dana O’Brien said that most visitors will still enjoy the park’s many other attractions — easing fears of a major decline in business. Guests from near and far are expected to explore nearby trails and scenic spots while the park continues to welcome tourists. KDRV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Medford police arrested two teenagers after they lured a 26-year-old man to the parking lot of Wilson Elementary School last week and shot him, police said – the suspects were taken into custody on Tuesday and now face charges of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. KDRV
- ➤ A Jackson County man, 33-year-old Chad McPherson, was indicted by a grand jury on charges of second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm after fatally shooting Anthony Monteleone in Prospect on June 5—his probable cause hearing is set for Friday, June 13 at 4 p.m. KDRV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Tina Kotek signed Senate Bill 951 on Monday to block corporate control of local medical clinics—licensed professionals must own the clinics to keep care local, she said. KOBI-TV
- ➤ ODOT removed 122 truck drivers from Oregon roads for illegally bypassing open weigh stations in late April and early May, ticketing them after detailed inspections in partnership with the Oregon State Police. Nearly 25% of these drivers were temporarily banned from operating commercial vehicles after falsified logs were discovered+ officials said more enforcement will continue to keep roads safe. KOBI-TV

- ➤ Dozens of paragliders from across the country have gathered in the Applegate Valley for Rat Route 238, with shuttles leaving Woodrat Mountain at 8:00 a.m. and optimal conditions expected by 11 a.m.—participants must bring their own gear and a license, though Sundog Paragliding offers tandem flight specials. The event will run through Friday—concluding with a wrap-up party for pilots and guests and activities hosted by local businesses. KOBI-TV
