Good morning, Medford. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 12th of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new fishing pier is ready for visitors at Lofton Reservoir, replacing the unsafe structure removed in 2020 by the Fremont-Winema National Forest. The site also includes a picnic table and grill (so visitors can cook their catches) and is now open for public use.  KOBI-TV
  • After 20 years, the Palm Fountain in downtown Medford is up and running again, though its drinking fountain for people and pets is still under repair due to electrical and mechanical issues. The fountain was donated in 1934 by Charles W. and Callie Palm (its restoration was funded by local and state marijuana tax revenue).  KOBI-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Lightning caused 10 fires on Tuesday—all contained to a tenth acre—and 13 more on Wednesday, with crews lining each fire to less than a quarter acre; teams are also handling two additional reports and urge anyone who sees smoke to call the Lakeview Interagency Fire Center at 541-947-6315.  KOBI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Medford police warned residents that false calls about upcoming ICE raids are fake and that the department is not contacting anyone—residents are urged to verify any suspicious messages by contacting the police at 541-770-4783.  MedfordAlert
  • CASA of Jackson County said its future funding now depends on Oregon lawmakers reviewing HB 5002 and HB 3196-A. Without this support, the group will lack the staff needed to train volunteers and serve 600 children each year (federal funds once provided 80% of its budget).  KOBI-TV
  • Today, the Medford Police Department warned residents about misinformation that officers are calling to warn them of incoming ICE raids & advised them to rely on official sources.  KDRV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Beginning Jan. 1, 2026, OHP members will have increased access to lower-cost and lifesaving cell and gene therapies targeting sickle cell disease in about 800 Oregonians as CMS negotiates with manufacturers to tie prices to treatment outcomes.
