  • Today at the Village at Medford Center, the Feel Good Fair offers free entry and family fun—featuring balloon artists, live entertainment, crafts, storytelling and puppy adoptions—from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  KOBI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Gabriella Calicchio (OSF’s executive director) is stepping down after seven months and is currently on leave before her last day will be July 1; the board (set to announce interim plans soon) confirmed the change.  KDRV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On June 17th, NBC5 News Director Joe Sullivan interviewed Southern Oregon PBS CEO Phil Meyer—explaining that a House vote to cut funding for PBS and NPR could reduce the station’s budget by 37%—which threatens local educational programs, documentaries, and emergency alerts.  KOBI-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A local couple in Jackson County lost their dog three days after it was exposed to harmful algae blooms at Lost Creek Lake — they posted a handmade sign at the lake to raise awareness — and the Oregon Health Authority updated its harmful algae bloom tracker and placed the lake under precautionary status.  KOBI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sen. Jeff Golden from Ashland has proposed Senate Bill 1177 to shift part of the state's extra tax revenue to a new wildfire-mitigation fund for fire prevention; the bill is under review in the Senate Finance Committee and would take effect immediately if approved to address rising wildfire risks.  MedfordAlert
  • Medford is looking at starting a medical school after a study from Tripp Umbach showed the city's health needs and facilities can support an MD program—Mayor Michael Zarosinski said OHSU might help if the community works together and city council will meet soon to plan funding.  KOBI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Jackson County Mental Health and Mercy Flights are now using a Mobile Crisis Response Team that sends mental health professionals and EMTs to answer 988 calls—this program meets people where they are to provide both mental and medical care—and helps keep individuals at home rather than sending them to emergency rooms.  KDRV
