  • Residents at Brookdale Senior Living received a visit from certified therapy dogs Rosa and Lulu — who traveled from Yreka, CA — on Wednesday morning, bringing gifts, snacks and a nail painting session to brighten their day. Rosa said their weekly visits lift residents’ spirits and make a real difference.  KOBI-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Buttercloud Bakery & Cafe reopened its doors Wednesday morning after over five months of rebuilding following a fire in a nearby warehouse that forced its closure in January—repairs included a new roof, ceiling, wiring and updated drywall. Owner Kim Peat and General Manager Cole Brewer said the bakery now offers added seating and revised menu items, operating daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.—the reopening marks a fresh start for this local favorite.  KOBI-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Eagle Point police closed Lucas Park and a trail off Arrowhead (no cougar was found) after a reported sighting on Wednesday evening; the park will remain closed tonight as officers continue to monitor the area.  MedfordAlert
  • A Prospect man was indicted for first-degree arson and reckless burning after allegedly setting a fire on Red Blanket Road last Wednesday—he was arrested the following day on Highway 62.  KOBI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tickets for the Craterian Theater's new season in downtown Medford are on sale today at a fixed price regardless of whether you buy online, by phone, or in person—this season will feature musical acts, dancing, comedy, and acrobats.  KOBI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Talent Middle School got a 143 kilowatt solar system from state energy grants that will save the district about $20k each year. Next week construction starts on a system at Talent Elementary School—this upgrade will offer backup power for lighting and IT to keep key areas running during emergencies.  KOBI-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Police in Eagle Point received a call around 8 p.m. on Wednesday that someone saw a cougar near Lucas Park and closed the park after they could not find the animal — they will keep watching the area and ask locals to report any more sightings.  KDRV

  • Secret Saga, ridden by jockey Jose Figueroa, came from behind on the final turn to beat General Thayer—ridden by Jose E. Rodriguez—in The Josephine County Stakes race on June 22.  Rogue River Press
