- ➤ The Rogue Eagles Air Show will take place on July 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Agate Skyways in Eagle Point—featuring model aircraft including a one-fifth scale WWII Spitfire Mark 14 and supporting the Children's Miracle Network with free entry for children and suggested donations for adults. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Jackson County grand jury ruled that a Medford police officer was justified in using deadly force against Salvador Alex Sanchez—55-year-old local transient wanted on two counts of unlawful use of a weapon—at Hawthorne Park last Friday, and Sanchez was later indicted on charges including attempted first-degree assault and resisting arrest while an administrative review of the officer’s actions continues. - ➤ ODOT manager Dan Metz said planned layoffs (affecting 9 of his 15-person crew effective July 31) will reduce winter highway maintenance in the High Cascades, leaving key routes such as access to Diamond Lake impassable for weeks this season. KOBI-TV
- ➤ The Rogue Valley Transportation District held an open house Friday in Medford to tell riders that service cuts beginning on September 2 will end Saturday service, shorten weekday hours, and suspend some routes+ General Manager Julie Brown said a federal funding freeze forced these changes and led to the layoff of 82 employees. - ➤ Highway 238 between Medford and Jacksonville remains closed this weekend as crews repair storm damage from a Monday storm that knocked down 14 power poles between Ross Lane, Lee Drive — and West Main. Pacific Power said repairs will continue until Saturday night — as crews clear fallen trees and debris. KOBI-TV
