ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, a man and a woman fell off their kayaks on the Rogue River near Chinook Park and both were rescued after the man was missing for nearly an hour—Josephine County Sheriff's deputies and a rescue boat from Baker Park later located him safe. KOBI-TV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Raul Meza-Solorio was sentenced to 15 years in prison (plus three years of post-prison supervision) after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the 2017 drive-by shooting that killed Christian Barajas on Chestnut Street in Medford. MedfordAlert
- ➤ Authorities are searching for Gold Hill man Roland (Rolly) Renfro, 73, who went missing on July 14 after leaving his home on Rogue River Highway and was last seen driving his silver 2015 Ford F-350 pickup with a personalized plate reading ELK-RNR without its trailer while he was accompanied by his small pug-terrier mix dog and has daily medication needs. - ➤ Detectives from the Illegal Marijuana Enforcement Team served a search warrant last Thursday at a rural farm on the 15,000 block of Highway 62 in Eagle Point where nearly 1,000 marijuana plants, 22 pounds of processed cannabis, and about $3,000 in cash were seized—resulting in a $15,000 fine for the landowner and felony drug charges for one person. - ➤ The Southern Oregon Historical Society is asking the city for an extra $50k to support its $1.2 million plan to transform a downtown property into a smaller event center — Councilor Jessica Ayers said the request was submitted through the Council Community Initiative Fund after an initial grant of $50k. The society replaced nine HVAC units this summer and said the project is estimated to be completed in about one year. KOBI-TV
- ➤ Today, the Medford City Council voted to put a proposed 2% transient lodging tax increase (from 11% to 13%) on the November ballot to help fund the Creekside Quarter redevelopment project. The $500 million plan may add a minor league baseball stadium, conference center, and hotels while only affecting visitors staying in short-term accommodations. KDRV
