CRIME NEWS

  • John Diaz, 32, pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful delivery of fentanyl and conspiracy on Monday and was sentenced Wednesday to 60 months in state prison with three years of post-prison supervision while 14 others were indicted for their parts in a local drug trafficking organization.  KDRV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Norman Huynh was named the Britt Festival Orchestra's fifth music director — he was one of three finalists after a two-year search and will lead seven of the nine summer performances on the Britt Pavilion outdoor stage in Jacksonville.  KOBI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • OLLI held its 10th Annual Open House on Wednesday at Southern Oregon University where 1,815 members took courses last year; this fall the institute will offer 150 courses—its highest count ever—and courses begin on September 15.  KOBI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Gold Hill may pay over $150 a month for sewer service—almost $30 more than expected—as city officials report that inflation and overlooked costs pushed pipeline estimates from $10.8 million to nearly $18 million; construction will begin in 2027 and new rates will take effect in 2028.  KOBI-TV
  • The Bureau of Land Management will hold eight timber sales this month from more than 2,000 public acres across five districts including Medford, Coos Bay and Roseburg, covering a total of 58.5 million board feet. Near Shady Cove, the Medford District will offer the Rogue Cypress Sale with over 11 million board feet in a competitive auction with an appraised value of about $1.8 million — companies may bid higher.  KOBI-TV
