- ➤ Early Tuesday, a 28-year-old driver named Daniel Charles Forgey died when his Chevrolet Suburban rolled on Highway 62 near milepost 32 in Jackson County — he was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected after striking a guardrail. MedfordAlert

- ➤ Medford is updating its long-range economic plan with a new Economic Opportunity Analysis that shows 11,408 more jobs by 2045 and enough land for new businesses—prepared by Community Attributes Inc. and partly funded by the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development, the draft report will be reviewed on Aug. 27 to guide city planning. - ➤ Firefighters in Douglas County are battling the Scenic Fire along the Rogue River—now 83 acres with 5% containment—that is sending heavy smoke toward Jackson County and causing travel delays on Highway 230. MedfordAlert
- ➤ A report from the Department of Environmental Quality shows that over the past three years the wildfire season extended into early October—resulting in more days with unhealthy air quality for sensitive groups. - ➤ Bureau of Land Management officials in the Medford District imposed additional public use restrictions on lands in southern Oregon starting August 12 due to high temperatures and rising fire danger — the restrictions aim to reduce wildfire risks.
