COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Jackson County Animal Services in Phoenix said the shelter is full and 36 adoptable dogs need new homes. Special incentives include half off adoption fees for most dogs and waived fees for those over 75 days in care until August 17—all with vaccinations, spay or neuter surgeries, and support provided with a $35 licensing fee for local residents.  KOBI-TV
  • Registration is open for the ninth annual Rogue Valley VeteRUN, a 5K event that raises awareness for veteran suicide and mental health.   • Today the Salvation Army hosts a school supply giveaway in Medford where volunteers help children pick essential school items. Donations from community groups ensure kids have backpacks and supplies for the new school year—organizers express gratitude for the local support.  KDRV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • All southbound lanes of I-5 reopened in North Medford after a semi-truck overturned just after 6:00 a.m. Wednesday near milepost 30—only the eastbound OR-62 southbound on-ramp remains closed for vehicle recovery while the adjacent Bear Creek Greenway is still affected.  MedfordAlert

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Law enforcement officers from across Oregon gathered in Medford on Monday for a DUII Wet Lab training—hosted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Medford Police Department—to practice field sobriety tests and compare breath test results. The course that lasted 16 hours helped officers sharpen their skills to detect both alcohol and drug-impaired driving.  MedfordAlert
  • The Department of Fish and Wildlife will host free pheasant hunts in September for youth 17 and under who must be hunter education certified—local young hunters can sign up to join the event once they meet the requirement.  Rogue River Press
  • Medford firefighters trained on Monday morning for emergencies in the city's 136 high-rise buildings using specialized equipment like the Fire Department Connection (FDC) to improve response times and safety.  KOBI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Oregon Department of Corrections delayed a new health care program that would have provided 90 days of coverage before release—leaving people with only a 30-day supply after getting out of prison.
