  • Local roasters and cafes in Medford have seen green coffee prices rise 9.6% since last year as global market shifts put pressure on businesses.   • Two men from San Antonio were sentenced to federal prison Thursday for conspiring to travel to Southern Oregon to commit an armed robbery while posing as DEA agents—officials confirmed the scheme.  Rogue River Press
  • A 37-year-old woman pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter for a hit-and-run crash on South Pacific Highway in Medford that killed an electric bike rider last October & she received a 10-year prison sentence with her license revoked after police said she was under the influence.  KOBI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Thursday, 11 young musicians from the Rogue Valley performed in Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s Into the Woods production under music director Amanda Denhert—who revived her mentorship program to offer stage experience. Clarinetist Clara Haptonstall and student Ryan Reyes—both said the program builds confidence by letting them learn from mistakes.  KOBI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A teen intervention program in Medford helped 56 students by offering in-school suspensions and free counseling sessions for those using drugs, vapes, and alcohol since it launched in late March. The program—managed by the city, Medford School District, OnTrack Rogue Valley, and Jackson County Health & Human Services—is funded by the National Opioids Settlement Fund through a three-year agreement that provides $40K per year to OnTrack, $9K to the school district, and $43K for its curriculum.  KDRV

  • A new study in Global Change Biology shows wildfires on private industrial forests are nearly 1.5 times more severe than on public forests—dense tree arrangements boost fire intensity. Researchers from the University of Utah, UC Berkeley and the U.S. Forest Service say proactive thinning is needed to reduce fire risks.  KOBI-TV
  • Oregon is bracing for a dangerous heat wave—set to drive triple-digit temperatures in many areas—after the NWS issued an Extreme Heat Watch for Western Oregon and an Excessive Heat Warning for Jackson and Josephine counties starting today. State agencies are coordinating cooling centers and outreach to help vulnerable residents—such as children, older adults, and outdoor workers—reduce the risk of heat illness.  MedfordAlert

  • Scientists detected WestNile virus in a mosquito pool collected on Wednesday in Eagle Point, marking the first positive finding in Jackson County this year.
