  • Hundreds of local families gathered at Phoenix High School on Saturday for the Healthy Start Block Party—a free event that provided school supplies, clinical exams, and haircuts to help students prepare for school. Hosted by the Phoenix-Talent community with Jackson Care Connect, the event set the stage for school to begin on September 2.  KOBI-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters are battling 20 lightning-caused fires in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest after heavy storms on Sunday, with crews working on sites like the Weaver and Butte Fires—hot, dry weather and possible rain may slow their containment efforts.  KDRV
  • Today at 5:50 p.m., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office issued a Level 1 'Be Ready' evacuation notice for Zone JAC-448 near Ashland because the McDonald Fire is burning on U.S. Forest Service land near Meridian Overlook and the Grouse Gap picnic area. Residents are advised to prepare for possible evacuation—avoiding the fire zone and the closed section of the Pacific Crest Trail while crews work to control the blaze estimated to cover about 5 acres.  MedfordAlert
