- ➤ Firefighters continued battling several lightning-caused wildfires in the Lower Rogue River corridor on Bureau of Land Management land 26 miles northwest of Grants Pass as crews worked on the largest blaze, Kelsey Peak, which burned 80 acres and reached 25% containment despite steep terrain slowing progress. More than 120 personnel were deployed and additional reinforcements are expected today — thunderstorms and gusty winds increased the risk of new fires as officials advised the public to avoid the area. - ➤ Bear Creek Stewards is calling on local volunteers to join Bear Creek Stewardship Day on September 20 for a cleanup of Bear Creek and the Bear Creek Greenway—stretching from Central Point to Ashland. Volunteers will check in at 8:30 a.m. and work until 12:00 with tools, supplies, coffee, juice, water, and snacks provided. KDRV

- ➤ Medford City Council members and the Chamber of Commerce have endorsed Ballot Measure 15-238, which would let Medford raise the Transient Lodging Tax up to 2%—a fee collected from overnight visitors—to fund the Creekside Quarter project that includes a conference center, outdoor sports space, hotel, and park improvements. The measure will go on the November ballot—only affecting the tax if a private/public partnership is secured—and is expected to support a $500 million development with an economic impact over $1.6 billion if it passes. - ➤ A local behavioral health organization changed its name from OnTrack Rogue Valley to Continuum Behavioral Health and Recovery Services as it now offers wider programs such as family treatment and childcare.
