A 40-year-old Ashland man, identified as Matthew Mark Vandersande, was fatally shot in a suspected targeted attack early Sunday morning at 3:38 a.m. on A Street and North 2nd Street—police said there is no ongoing public threat.

The Jackson County Major Assault/Death Investigation Unit confirmed a homicide investigation is underway in Ashland after officers responded to an incident at A Street and 2nd Street—law enforcement including Oregon State Police and Medford Police Department are involved, and there is no threat to the public.
