  • Carry The Load is inviting volunteers on September 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery to clean headstones and beautify the grounds—this event honors fallen service members and is held in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs.  KDRV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A crash on Crater Lake Highway near milepost 19 at Cindy Way in Shady Cove closed the road on Tuesday and officials warned drivers to use alternate routes via OR 234 and Rogue River Drive—no injuries have been reported yet.  MedfordAlert
  • A 26-year-old Gold Hill man died on Monday when his Subaru Legacy plunged into the Rogue River at 2:18 p.m. on Highway 99 near milepost 12—rescue teams later removed the car from the river.  MedfordAlert

CRIME NEWS

  • Five years after the Almeda Fire spread from North Ashland to South Medford, destroying thousands of homes and claiming three lives, authorities confirmed the blaze was human-caused but have not identified a suspect despite the largest criminal investigation in Jackson County involving 18 agencies from four states — leaving residents without answers.  KOBI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The City of Phoenix is set to host its first-ever citywide art walk—Phoenix Second Phriday—on Friday, Sept. 12, with over 13 local shops and venues offering live music, art exhibitions and family-friendly activities. Mayor Al Muelhoefer will open a Mayor’s Gallery at the Phoenix Civic Center at 5 p.m.—serving his famous chocolate chip cookies—to kick off the event as a new cultural celebration.  KDRV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Medford City Council approved $611,750 from the Council Community Initiative Fund to support 10 local programs including the Rogue Rapids Swim Team and the Children’s Museum of Southern Oregon — the museum will use its $100,000 for memberships and preschool tuition while the swim team will receive $25,000 to expand its scholarship program for local kids.  KDRV
  • Monday marked five years since the Almeda Fire, and local officials have upgraded emergency management with new communication tools—such as tablet command—and set evacuation zones to slash alert times. Kelly Burns, now Ashland’s Emergency Management Coordinator, said the changes have boosted coordination among agencies.  KOBI-TV
