- ➤ Zander, a 5-year-old German Shepherd mix, is this week’s Dog-of-the-Week available for adoption at Jackson County Animal Services — his adoption fees are waived after more than 75 days in the shelter and he is known for his gentle nature and basic commands. - ➤ Construction began this week on downtown Medford's first new hotel in 60 years at the corner of Fourth and Bartlett streets next to Pear Blossom Park—crews are getting underground electrical and plumbing systems ready, roads on 3rd Street and Apple Street are closed for detours, and the 134-room Element by Westin hotel will open spring or summer. - ➤ A once-empty lot on Barnett Road is being redeveloped into a four-story WoodSpring Suites extended-stay hotel as crews finish electrical and HVAC work for its fall opening across from Fred Meyer—part of Medford’s south side revitalization.
