COMMUNITY NEWS

  • ACCESS began its fourth year of the Rogue Power Pack program in September as local volunteers pack and deliver bags with six meals and six snacks every Friday to serve 882 kids in need—55 more than last year. Donations made during Hunger Action Month will support the program's efforts in the community.  KOBI-TV
  • Bigham Farms Pumpkin Patch opens tomorrow in Central Point with fall activities—families can pick pumpkins at 50 cents a pound, ride hayrides for $5, or enjoy a corn maze, kiddie cart rides, and a slingshot game using tennis balls until November 2. Owner Doug Bigham expects about 10,000 visitors and advises bringing cash for easier payment.  KOBI-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • ODF Southwest and Jackson County Fire District 3 are working to contain a 1–2 acre grassfire on Ball Road northeast of Eagle Point as forward progress has been halted and no extra resources are being requested.  KDRV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cabaret Risqué will present a drag musical that mixes The Rocky Horror Picture Show with The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas—set for mature audiences at Rockafairy in Rogue Valley Mall. The show will run on October 24, 25, 31 and November 1 and tickets will start at $15 for the first 75 buyers.  KOBI-TV
  • The 2025 Britt Music & Arts Festival ended on September 18th in Jacksonville with Hermanos Gutierrez closing the event while ticket sales held steady despite challenges at many independent venues. CEO Abby McKee said a movie screening event for 2026 will be announced in November and details for the Winter Chamber Classical Music Series at City Hall will be shared next week.  KOBI-TV
  • The Ashland Independent Film Festival announced it is accepting submissions for its 25th annual event scheduled for April 23—26, 2026—filmmakers can submit narrative and documentary films in various categories before the October 19 deadline.  KOBI-TV

  • Rogue River School Board director Jay Chick cut the ribbon at the Early Learning Center + Wellness Center, and board chair Heather Friend + director Bruce Sund, La Clinica CEO Brenda Johnson and executive director Katherine Clayton attended the opening.  Rogue River Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Medford City Council is reviewing code changes that may limit car washes and similar businesses from operating in certain parts of the city—officials say the review is tied to long-term growth plans. The council will draft additional options in 2026 and conduct public reviews by the Site Plan, Planning, and City Councils—final changes will depend on community feedback.  MedfordAlert
  • A new Oregon law takes effect today and requires insurance companies to give a plain, written explanation for premium hikes on renewing home and auto policies—if customers ask in writing. The law does not cover new policies or other types of insurance—limiting its reach to existing policyholders.  KOBI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Max’s Mission is hosting the ninth annual Overdose Awareness Day event today at Hawthorne Park from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. — over 30 local organizations will provide support and resources for those affected by opioid use.  KOBI-TV
  • Eric Wood from Eagle Point is biking 200 miles this month to fight childhood cancer in memory of his daughter—Sarah, who was diagnosed with brain cancer in high school and passed away in 2020. He has raised over $20 thousand in eight years riding and aims to raise $3 thousand this year to fund research for better treatments.  KOBI-TV
