EDUCATION NEWS

  • SMART Reading is inviting volunteers in Rogue River to support children's literacy by giving one hour a week, and local residents are encouraged to join the longstanding nonprofit’s efforts—empowering young readers.  Rogue River Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Approximately 150 Oregon National Guard soldiers returned to Medford after nearly one year in Egypt and rejoined their families at a welcome home ceremony held at Jackson County Expo—where they served on a multinational force in the Sinai Peninsula to help uphold the treaty between Egypt and Israel.  KOBI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rogue Community College will host free naloxone training workshops at its Medford and White City campuses; the Riverside Campus event is scheduled for Oct 7 at 2 p.m. in room 132 and the Table Rock Campus event will be held on Oct 13 at 11 a.m.+ participants must register in advance to secure kits and information packets.  KDRV

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Mt. Ashland has tentatively set its 2025 ski season opening for December 13th and offers $100 discounts on season passes bought before October ends—those purchasing by November 21st will be entered in a drawing for a $50 gift card. The resort will hold its Winter Kickoff Party on November 22nd and host family events on October 17th and 18th—featuring a haunted trail and chairlift Trick-or-Treat for kids.  KOBI-TV

  • Today, Rogue X in Medford hosts Spartan Boxing’s 'Fighting the Good Fight' event—local amateur boxers compete to support youth programs—as doors open at 4 p.m. and fights begin at 5 p.m. General admission is $15 and tickets for ages seven to 17 are $10.  KOBI-TV
