BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mt. Ashland Ski Area will raise ticket prices this season because rising insurance costs, tariffs, and wages have increased expenses at the resort — it plans to open on Dec. 13 with lower weekday rates and enhanced safety upgrades for a busy season expecting 100,000 to 125,000 visitors. Detailed price changes will be announced in November amid ongoing infrastructure improvements and new trail developments.  KDRV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Ashland New Plays Festival returns to SOU’s Main Stage Theater today through October 19—four new plays chosen from over 350 submissions will be shown twice and a writing workshop is scheduled for Saturday at 10:00 a.m.  KOBI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • An Eagle Point mother raised concerns about the new Structured Recess policy at Eagle Rock Elementary because parents were not notified in advance. School officials explained the district introduced the policy to lower student stress and improve safety — now the superintendent is reviewing the change.  KDRV
  • Shoppers at Rogue Community College sorted through one-dollar clothes today to raise funds for student scholarships that help non-traditional students and reduce financial hurdles — a sale organized by the local chapter of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges. A second sale is planned for Thursday at the Redwood Campus in Grants Pass.  KOBI-TV
  • Students from Oregon Institute of Technology traveled to South Carolina for the 50th anniversary of the Baja Society of Automotive Engineers and competed for three days to place 18th out of 66 teams — they also ranked 20th for design, 12th for maneuverability and 13th in the endurance race.  KOBI-TV

  • Last Saturday in Talent, the newly renovated skate park hosted the Skate Classic where local skaters competed for a $2,000 prize — the park underwent six months of $600,000 renovations and organizers plan more events.  KOBI-TV
