COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown Medford will host its first Forks & Friends Restaurant Week from Oct 17 through Oct 23 to showcase local restaurants with special menus, seasonal dishes and events like Bales & Ales and Sunday brunch celebrations. Organized by the Downtown Medford Association and Travel Medford, the event will support local farms and small businesses.  KDRV
  • The Nightmare Chamber Haunted House is back this season with spooky nights and a new Family Day —1 to 3 p.m.— on Sundays at its downtown Medford location on Third Street, and owner Robin Downward said the change meets a local need for kid-friendly fun. This event gives families the chance to play 12 carnival games and enjoy snacks with one fee.  KOBI-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chick-fil-A announced it will open six new restaurants in Oregon by early 2027, including two locally owned drive-thru restaurants in Sherwood and Corvallis that opened on Oct. 9 — this expansion is set to add over 600 jobs statewide, and the company donated $50,000 to Feeding America while offering a free entrée to guests in cow print on opening day.  MedfordAlert

CRIME NEWS

  • Mercy Flights Inc. warns that laser strikes aimed at aircraft are rising in southern Oregon and have already endangered pilots and patients—officials say even a brief flash can disorient a pilot and lead to hefty fines or criminal charges.  KOBI-TV

  • Moon Coin Productions Inc. will perform its tribute show 'Take It to the Limit' at the Craterian Theatre in downtown Medford on Oct 28 at 7:30 p.m.—the show features faithful renditions of Eagles songs and is part of a larger tour across Washington and Oregon.  MedfordAlert
  • Local author Cherie Coon signed copies of her prehistoric adventure book at Oregon Books & Games in Grants Pass, sharing her tale of courage, connection & self-discovery with local fans.  Rogue River Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Professor Chris Goldfinger from Oregon State University said his study — which used core samples from both fault lines — shows a link between the Cascadia and San Andreas faults that could have one quake trigger the other and advised residents to prepare for future events.  KDRV
  • Circular Action Alliance opened Oregon’s first RecycleOn Oregon drop-off center Wednesday morning in Ashland at 220 Water Street to collect items such as plastic lids and shredded paper that do not go in regular bins—more than 140 centers will open statewide soon.  KDRV

  • A new rendering of the Creekside Quarter project shows plans for a conference center, upscale hotel, multi-use stadium, retail and office spaces, housing, restaurants and a riverwalk with a parking structure offering over 400 spaces in downtown Medford. City officials say a Town Hall Panel Discussion is held today at the RCC/SOU Higher Education Building—voters will decide on Measure 15-238 in November to approve a transient lodging tax increase that funds the redevelopment.  MedfordAlert
